Airport

The Vienna airport is located 25 km south of the city. It takes approximately 25–35 minutes by car to the city centre. Some low-cost airlines fly to the nearby Bratislava airport, located about a 1-hour drive from Vienna.

Vienna Airport is very well connected to the city, and traffic is seldom problematic. There are buses, trains, express trains and taxis around the clock. For a quick overview of schedules and transportation, please check the Austrian Federal Railway website (Use the menu button ‘Timetable’).

City airport train (CAT)

By City Airport Train (CAT): This express train connects the airport with the city centre with a non-stop ride. The CAT operates from the airport 06:08–23:38 and from the city 05:37–23:07 every 30 minutes. It takes 16 minutes to Landstrasse/Wien Mitte (connection metro U3 and U4). Ticket vending machines can be found at the airport‘s luggage hall or CAT stations. Train (OEBB)

Several regional trains stop at the airport. Every 30 minutes, there is one to the city centre (stop in Landstrasse/Wien Mitte, connection metro U3 and U4) or to the main train station (stop Hauptbahnhof, connection U1). You can buy a 2-zone ticket for € 4.30, which will be valid for 90 minutes, including commuting to any metro, bus or tram within Vienna. Bus

The airport bus takes about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and the final destination. There are three lines (VAL 1–3). VAL 1 & VAL 2 depart every hour and VAL 3 every two hours from the airport’s bus terminal towards different city destinations. VAL 3 has a stop at the congress centre.

Taxi

When leaving the arrival halls, please look for the signs for the nearest taxi stand. An average journey by taxi from the Vienna Airport to downtown takes about 20–30 minutes and costs approx. € 35,00 to € 45,00 one-way (incl. surcharge for the luggage, three people max.).

Only for the return transfer towards the airport can you ask for an ‘Airport Taxi’ (or German ‘Flughafentaxi’). Depending on your pick-up point, the taxi company will give you an immediate fixed price.
